Temba Bavuma won the toss in the series opener and put India in to bat.

India got off to a streaky but effective start. They made 51 in the PowerPlay before Ruturaj Gaikwad fell to Wayne Parnell.

Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan kept attack in the post PP phase, overs 6-10 bringing 51 runs.

Ishan Kishan got to a 37-ball 50 and then raced away to make 76 off 48 balls.

South Africa missed a chance to dismiss Iyer and the second-wicket stand added 80 off 40 balls for India.

Hardik Pandya provided the finishing touches with a 12-ball 31* to take India to 211, their highest T20I score vs SA.

India struck early in the defence when they dismissed Bavuma.

South Africa's decision to promote Dwaine Pretorius at No.3 was a good one, he helped set the tempo of the chase with a 13-ball 29.

After a stutter through overs 6-10, David Miller took over with a 22-ball 50.

Rassive van der Dussen had a more troubled first half to the innings. He was dropped when on 29 off 30 before exploding into action.

The pair put on 131 off just 63 to take South Africa home with five balls to spare.
